I just got my 2008 nightster and i wanna bob it ASAP. I plan on ordering licks solid struts and a springer seat kit from rich phyllips cycles on ebay as well as cutting the rear fender. I have seen some threads that have helped but i would love to see what advice i could get from any one who has been there and done that.
Dude....if you can search the sportster section. Some of these guys put up some pretty good step by step instructions for various mods to various areas of the bikes. Save all the page shortcuts to a folder for reference. Makes a good winter project.
Hopefully some of them will post some links to the threads in here.
1. Manual.
2. The right tools.
3. Ability to read.
You can kind of figure out the rest from there. Just tear into it, man. You'll see, it gets pretty self-explanatory after that. Picture what you want in your mind, read this place a ton, and just be willing to accept making a mistake. Good luck and happy choppin'.

i have drags and i like them. to me it made the sporty feel much more responsive. the one down fall i would say is that my back starts to hurt during any long rides. your posture may change depending on your height.
Find the center of the fender that you are gonna cut, then lay down some masking tape covering the area. Draw the cut line out on only half the fender, then trace it onto a sheet of paper, flip it, and redraw that line on the other side. It will give you perfectly symmetrical cut. Also, don't cut beyond the bolts, it will make things shaky shaky. Good luck, and as stated earlier, check out the Sportster forums here. Lot of good info from some really sharp fabricators!
