Default need to replace my chain

My chain popped off the other day. It didn't break. I walked it back on like I used to do on my bicycle. The axle is all t e way back no room to make it tighter. Needs to be replaced. How hard is it to do? What do I do? I. Ave plenty of tools and a jack. Also any rexommendations on a new chain. And how much do they cost? Thanks.

Changing a chain is fairly easy. But you will probably need to replace the rear sprocket and possibly the front sprocket too. If an x-ring chain is too expensive, don't buy an o=ring. Instead go for a good quality standard roller chain. Standard roller chain, if properly oiled, will last as long as an o-ring chain. A good quality chain will cost you 60-80 bucks, sprockets will be around 50 bucks each. When you bolt the new sprockets on, make sure to put 1 drop of red Locktite on the threads. Invest in a factory service manual.

If the chain is still in good shape, just take a link out.

If the chain popped off, it needs replacing. Lucky for you it didn't lock the rear wheel.

If the chain is stretched too far to adjust any more, it isn't in good shape...

A stretched chain will wear the spocket teeth. If you put a new chain on worn sprockets
it will immediately be stretched. Always replace chain and sprockets at the same time.
Modern "O" ring chains are a godsend IMHO. They take an initial stretch and are good
to go without lube fling - just wipe a VERY THIN coat of moly grease on the rollers
every once in a while. Standard aftermarket steel / chromoly sprockets are just fine
without MOCO prices - less than $100 for both. A D.I.D. pro o-ring will cost a little
more but worth it. Might think about having a good dirt bike shop do it as it's regular
maintenance for them - do it all the time and can get just what you need - just no
"aluminum" rear sprocket. IMHO - from an old desert racer.
