Default '79 sportster kickstart problems

is there a way to keep kicker from nearly breakn ur ankle without buying starter? i also need to adjust s&s super carb, gettn alot of gas spittn back into filter causing filter to get soaked. this is my first bike and have done alot of mechanical work to it. it didnt run when i bought it. guy said it hasnt ran in a yr. changed out dyna s ignition and it fired up. my main concern is the gas and clutch cable tightening up while riding. checked adjuster screw and nothing there. stays tight. any help is much appreciated.

Kickers on these bikes are known for not engaging very well, mine always engages real well at about the 9 o clock position. You don't get much of a stroke like that but if she's well tuned, that's all it needs. Once you've got it engaged, keep a light downward pressure on it, if you jump up and lose that pressure, most of the time it will slip and really knock the **** out of your inside knee bone on the upper shock mount.

As for your clutch problem, you'll probably need to pull the primary cover off to see what's going on inside there.

I have no experience with the S&S carb, lots of guys have trouble with them. Mine has the stock carb.

Congrats on the new Ironhead ownership, there is a seperate section here for them too by the way.
