883????
hi all. i have a problem, kinda.
i ride a honda valkyrie interstate, and a suzuki gsxr 750.
im thinking of buying my friends 06 883 to ride from upstate ny down to manhattan each day, 60 miles. i want a smaller bike to lane split , good mpg etc.
question is the 883 enuf bike for me? normal speed i ride 70 -80.

I'm of no help...I use absolutely no economical formula or practicality methodology in determining a Sportster purchase. But I would think traveling that far at those speeds wouldn't fit well with a stock 883.

Riding 70-80mph you would do much better mileage with a 1200. The gearing is different and the 1200 is much more practical for highway economy. With the 883 at those speeds, you will probably get about 50mpg on a stock bike, give or take a little. Also, depending on how close the cars drive, lane splitting can be slightly challenging but is definitely doable. The 883 and 1200 are basically the exact same size (negligible differences).

Comming off a Gixer 750,,,the 883 will be a dog to you.

The 883 will get the job done,,,as for mpg,,,pffft
If yer so poor that ya gotta have 55 mpg over 49mph hiway,,
then yer better off with a used toyota Yaris,,cause bikes are more
expensive to maintain.

I love my Iron, but there is NO way in hell I would ride it 60 miles at 70-80 MPH. Maybe on a road trip...but not daily. I ride about 10 miles on the highway at 70 and that's enough for me!
