Default Aero, Airflow, Wind

I've rode many different styles and makes of motorcycles over the years from dirtbikes, enduro's metric, non-metric but i never noticed the wind blast/pressure that i get on my Sportster. Thankfully i'm pretty fit so its not a problem. Strong arms and stomach muscles are a plus at higher speeds. The bucket seat helps as well. My question is do the other Harley models seem to suffer from it or is it just a Sporty thing? This is the only bike i've owned that i really have to hold onto it seems. Do you think its the sleek streamlined design?

I have a QD windshield on both a Sportster and Dyna. They may as well be rigid mount because I always ride with them on and it's much more comfortable. Less wind pressure, noise and no bugs. The only negative I have is that crosswinds will seem to blow you around at higher speeds.

The riding position has alot to do with how much wind pressure you feel while riding. On my sportster, I put some drag bars on low mounts. That made me lean forward, the air pressure helped to take my weight off my shoulders, therefor the wind pressure was a non issue for me. I know that everyone is different, that's what worked for me. Most people use a windshield, I didn't want one on my Sportster.

Cool

Yep you sit up straighter,,,
You got the Roadster,,now get one of these:::

Ok My Rundown on the HD 1/4 fairing: The Build was fine, The Mounting was a Biatch, I over tightend one of the quick release mounts on the fork tube and sheered off the bolt. trip to the Dealer n 25 bucks, got another. It say's mount it all loose the lock it down so I did,,comes on an off real hard. so much for quick release. Im still happy an will prolly never take it off.,.,. Performance: Works Perfect! No,,NADA,,Not a bit of Turbulence. I used my hand at 75 mph to check wind flow. It Arches up on the top and side and hits me Smoothly in the arms n shoulders. My head wich is always in a KBC flip face/full face helmet Does NOT Buffet in turbulent winds. I can Turn my head to the side and all is smooth. So Im still in da wind and Im not sitting up In Hurricaine force winds. BTW check out the Cool Black Mirrors from the dealer made for the Night Train. I needed a bit longer stems to see over my shoulders but standard long stems were Too Long.now for Pictures::2008 XL1200R for Roadster:

I've never owned or driven a crotch rocket at all or (any lean forward ride) my bikes even the older ones were straight up riding posture. I'm thinking alot has to do with the peanut tank which being slim doesn't push much air away from the rider as well as the way the headlight, handlebar and forks are in relation to the rider. A bigger headlight or even a headlight style fairing or smaller changes the bike aero profile immensely. I remember riding my ole Yam YJ-650 at over 100mph for miles with no severe wind pressure on the body. I've never had my 883 over 100 yet lol ... 75mph is a task riding into a head wind. If all i was gonna do was drive a straight line on the interstate i'd probably buy a Road King but thats not my style. I will take the twisty route to my destination even if its twice the distance! Fun Fun
