I currently have the stock headlight on my 1200L but I've been thinking it would be awesome if I could see better at night. What's the best way to go? Should I just get a bigger headlight or replace the current bulb with a halogen one? Is there a way I've never heard about? What do you think?
Replacing the current bulb will perhaps make a marginal difference on the stock light, but not major unless you go to a truly higher wattage bulb. HID replacement would be a major upgrade, as might be the new LED lamp from Harley (don't know for sure on that one, it has mixed reviews).
I can no longer tolerate the horrible illumination on mine either - and I've been looking at ways to add little driving lamps on the lower fork tubes, go through the lighting section on JPcycles.com or denniskirk.com for some ideas. Let us know what you come up with.
Yeah the stock headlight does suck-not too bad on the high beam, but you can't use that at night with cars around. HID's are the way to go, but then you have to hide the ballest, but it's been done a ton of times on here-do a search. I hate how the new HD LED set looks so for me that would never be an option. Like was said a small bright set of drving lights would be nice, but it's not going to be the cleanest look once monted to the bike. Also like was said a higher wattage bulb is not good for the wireing the charging system so do go that route.
I went with the 7" light from Ebay about 70 bucks. Once you get over the size cause she's bigger, it works great at night. Street sign's now light up and now during the daylight when I come up on someones bumper they pull off to the side and let me pass.
Never happen before with the small headlight ??

I put mine on high beam the day i bought it and its been there ever since. How many folks flash a single headlight vehicle ?
I have the aux lights on my bike and they help tremendously. They illuminate the sides of the road very nicely. I rarely use my high beam anymore. Additionally, the lamps can be upgraded just like the primary headlight.
