Default Jetting help

hey guys, about to put a K&N and a set of SE mufflers on the sportster. i was wondering how many of you rejetted after doing the stage one mods and which jets you used. i will probably go with the dynojet thunderslide since both my Harley buddies use it and said it was excellent.

im pretty sure the bike would run fine without rejetting but i know it will run much better if i do......any help is appreciated.

It will run very lean with out rejetting. I would not get a dynojet, as they are pricey for what you get. You can get the same results with a 1 size larger slow jet, 2 coils cut off of the slide return spring, a 1988 1200 Sportster needle, and proper adjustment on the idle screw.(Usually about 2 to 2 1/2 turns out from bottom). the screw is located under a plug on the bottom of the carb.

To remove the plug, drill a small hole in it, and insert a woodscrew just far enough in the hole that you can pull the plug. this should be done with great care to insure no damage.

I have run the Dynojet, and the above setup both, and there is no noticable difference in performance. There is about a 60 or 70 dollar difference in price.

Regards,

Bill

bullittmcqueen,

You might want to give this link a read re: re-jetting your carb for Stage I performance. You are really only 2/3's of the way done. You will definitely run lean with the reduced back pressure in your new pipes and increased air flow through the K&N filter. Personally, I would strongly advise a re-jet so that the fuel/air mixture is sufficient to prevent a lean running engine, and to get the most out of your current mods.
