Default Choosing an AC upgrade...

Been looking to change the air cleaner for a while now, but wanted to research it first. As usual the internet has yielded lots of conflicting information and more "factual opinions" than actual facts. I'm looking for some performance and a non-stock look.

I've been looking at lots of different ones but mainly the SE stage 1, the SE heavy breather, and the Arlen Ness Big Sucker stage 1 and 2. I have x14ied's and slip ons installed, but wasnt sure if a stage 2 would be a benefit or not. Kinda lost on what to do at this point.

Any experience people have with these would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Many choices indeed. Favorites here are the NRHS, Ness, Joker Machine, SE Heavy Breather, and SE Stage 1. Many people swear by the NRHS unit, as it comes in a 2" element or an offset 3". All perform well, its mostly appearance afterwards. I went with the stage 1 since it's mostly covered (in the event of a rogue downpour) and it looks stock.

Unless you have had a lot of head work, any stage 1 will provide more air than your motor can use. That said, I believe the SE was a direct copy of the BIG sucker. My vote is for the Big Sucker.

I was looking at the SE stage 1 again on the HD site and noticed the note that says "Recalibration is required for proper installation and will allow engine to rev to 7000 RPM. See dealer for details."

Is that something to worry about or will the x14's deal with that?

The OL's bike. She likes the extra leg room. The design is machined into the aluminum. It was chromed then powder coated using two colors (black and white):

The 7000 rpm comes with the SEST. It is the minimum rev limiter setting. I have it on my Nster that I raced at Bonneville. Always shifted at ~6600 but it ran to 6900 on the dyno.

I have figure machine and like it. As stated earlier air flow is more than you need on all, so go for the design that you like.

Ended up going with the Heavy Breather. I like the looks of it, and everything is made out of metal. It is also capable of more flow when/if I do any engine work. I've heard that the SE stage I kit and the big sucker's back plates are prone to cracking (someone else may be able to chime in about that). In the end anything will give better flow than the stock.
