I ride in stop and go traffic several days a week in temps of 95-100 (official, road temps might be higher) and the dipstick never reads over 205, it might have hit 210 once. It's air cooled, not cooling challenged.
An overheating engine makes all kinds of new sounds that it didn't make two minutes before overheating.
As for the 5k Tranny Interval,,
Mine started sounding different,,I could hear the chain at about 5k,,
changed the fluid,,,tranny got real quiet and It shifted way better, smoother
less clunk,,almost none,almost too quiet.
So Mine needed the change at 5k,,I'll keep that up cause Its only one
cheap quart of fluid.
I like getting the crap out and always, with fresh fluid I see no need for synthetics.
waist of money IMO

I guess some people can't feel a clutch changing due to heat unless
shown.
I will admit It was very suttle at first and mostly only noticable
In the friction zone.
Ever stop to think that clutch issues, noisy primary chain, and the "need" to change the tranny oil at 5K, just might have something to do with the non synthetic oil you're using?
And how much do you pay for it?
At $9.00/qt for syn Mobil-1 75w-90, just what kind of cheap junk are you using, that makes the Mobil-1 a "waist of money"?
If I remember right, aren't you running the overpriced Formula+ (Citgo crap) ?
I guess I was mis informed my a HD wrench about the parade mode on a sportster..
Keep me straight guys.

Where I come from its called think before you speak. Plus it never hurts to verify anything your told before you go off preaching it as Gospel....... Or at least add that "you think" it might be this or that. If your wrench thinks Sportys have a parade mode then I would question anything he says about a Sportster.........
If your hearing chain whine then the first thing you do is check the chain tension as per the specs in the manual.
And quit talking about Sportster Tranny Fluid. Sportsters take GEAR OIL in the Primary. Always talk gear oil and then know one gets confused. If Your "HD Wrench" is calling your primary gear oil "Tranny fluid" well I already said it........ BTs use Tranny fluid in one of their 3 holes, with gear oil and motor oil in the other 2........

Yup he swears by that Formula+ crap.......
75w-90 Synthetic GEAR OIL is best, choose your poison (brand). Me I also like Mobil1.
Wish it was 75-80 here today... It's 102 on my back porch. Not going out riding until around 7PM when it drops to anout 93 and it's still early summer here in Louisiana
