Default Part fell off inside speedo

The black plastic "cap" that sits on the center of the speedometer needle fell off my buddy's bike during a ride yesterday. Along with the plastic piece was a small metal part (brass?) is also now bouncing around between the glass and the face of the speedo.

Is there any way to open up the unit to remove those parts? I believe that it's a sealed unit. What are his options? Does the speedometer have to be replaced?

Yes, they are suppose to be sealed, but I guess you are the only two sporty owners on the planet that have never had condensation on the inside of the speedo glass. They are sealed very well. If I remember correctly, some people who took their speedo apart had some trouble getting them back together. However, I haven't heard of many trying it either though.

The speedo is made of plastic molded to the lens.Had mine removed so I have seen it first hand. You may get it apart but you would need to glue it back together.Provided no little parts get lost.I have a new speed being shipped to my house for $200.Spun aluminum one.I ordered it form Zanotti cheaper than the stock one local.
