Windshields make a sportster look like a girls bike Yes they do!!! If you don't care about looks my advice to you is to buy a large windshield that harley guaranties will keep the wind off you, After all thats why you are getting one. Watch out for the small sport shields. Some create so much turbulance over 30 mph that they want to knock your glasses off. It's worse than no windshield at all. Ask about the turbulance aspect, you could spend $200 or $300 and hate it The wind can flow up over the shield and be directed straight at your face if it's not tall enough, it can also flow up from under the shield and off the sides and cause turbulance. Talk about these things with your dealer A bad windshield is worse than no windshield at all...

I have the HD quick release detachable on my bike (standard height). I like it - bike looks good - it really cuts down on wind to the chest. I'm 5'8 - my line of sight is just over the shield - if you are any shorter - consider the compact size (or the king size) - you want your eyes either over the top or look through the glass - not in the middle.

*RRRRNNNNDT* WARNING! WARNING! GIRL BIKE THREAD ALERT!
'Nuffa dat; back to the thread. HD quick detatch on my '05 custom, I don't mind the minimal hardware when the windshield is removed. The peanut tank Sporties have that lean, mean look and a standard windshield takes away from that, IMHO. Something a bit narrower, angular looks good, but you lose some effectiveness. Oh hell, get some good raingear and SCREW the windshield (how's that for a definitive answer?). [sm=exactly.gif]
Without a doubt, a windshield is one of the best pieces of equipment I have ever bought for the bike. I have the standard harley configuration on my 883L. It is the quick release type. Never a problem. I'm short and I did find that I had to trim some of the top off in order to get the right line of sight.
