I would start by pulling the solenoid wire off of the starter and seeing if it still happens. If it does, the problem is in the starter assembly. If it doesn't, the problem is in the electrical wiring, switch, relay, etc.
Thank you all for your reply's! This is good stuff. I haven't been able to concentrate on anything other than getting this fixed lately, so I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions.
I will try these out tonight when I get home from work and will post an update as soon as I have one.
I decided to go to my local dealership and pickup a new starter switch assembly. This included the start button and run switch, $60. Installed the new switch and so far (keeping fingers crossed) everything is working like normal. So seems like there was a problem with the internals of my previous start switch. (i've been told Harley made a bad batch of these at one point and getting them wet only makes matters worse, i've also been told the new switches are a much better design).
