Default Help at start up

Could anyone give me the particulars on whats happening when you hit the start switch and the bike doesn't start up and instead you hear an awful grinding like sound (the starter I assume)? Usually fires the second time around. Seems to be happening more with my bike as of late. Can't be good for it.

Thnx

Wow, could be several things like a loose starter, bad gear, loose or corroded wire. See your dealer.

Are you under warranty? Because it sounds like your starter has teeth messed up, Or the gear in the motor it engages with.
I wouldn't keep messing with it, get it repaired. It will only get worse of course.

Got mine out of the shop Last week for the same thing. It would not do it everytime but Usually when hot. I thought it was the starter but it turned out to be a bad compensator. The had to replace the compensator and rotor. Glad it was under warranty. The service manager said it has been an ongoing problem with 06-08 models It started at around 40,000 miles on my 08 FLHT.

Yes, still under warranty. I'm going to try to bring it in tomorrow morning if I can dodge the rain. Not something to playing around for sure. Thanks.

Yep, no good stock compensator, you need the s/e compensator installed, they should cover it under warranty. good luck.

Get the SE compensator and never have the starting issue again.
