I have a 2003 Sportster 1200 with only 1500 miles with new batt. Came back from a short ride and stopped in front of garage. Pushed start botton and it went "tick" and everything went dead, unable to crank at all... checked fuses near battary and they are fine. Has some power on gage when key is on ACC. position but not IGN. Headlights will not come on neither...
Did miss another place with a fuse? What should I check next? Please help...
check the connections to the battery. i had that same problem when i had my 1200. there was so much vibration it would vibrate the connections off. good luck!
Could be a very slight chance you got a bad battery, or one that sat for a long time. There's a really good chance though that you have charging issues though since it started the first time.
95 Sportster 1200 died when I pulled in and now won't start..
Before I get too far I am by no means any good with electrical I'm good mechanically but wires and all that start freaking me out. I have a 1995 Sportster 1200 I was riding around all day and it kept hesitating to start sometimes I'd have to wiggle the battery and it would start then later that night left from my friends to go home it had very little throttle response my lights went out and it died as soon as I pulled into the driveway went out the next morning to start it and it won't start. I have power in the ACC but no power when I turn the key to ignition. I did have a loose negative wire on my battery terminal and I tightened it but it didn't do anything and the battery is charged. What else could it be before I start going out and throwing parts at this thing cuz my only thoughts are new ignition new main relay or new main fuse all my fuses though under the seat look fine. PLEASE HELP.
Where battery leads ( Wires ) are concerned , tightness dosen't mean a thing if there's oxidisation between the contacting surfaces . I recommend removing all leads and filing all the surfaces back to bright metal before reassembling . And that includes both ends of the negative lead .
