Default Shock/lowering question

Was looking to lower the rear a bit and saw lowering brackets on Ebay pretty cheap, but then was thinking of a set of Progressive shocks instead. The shocks I have now (stock) are 11.5" center to center, and I've heard putting 11" shocks will drop it more than 1/2". Can anyone tell me how much drop a 1/2" in shock length will equate to?

It's a triangle, so putting on a 0.5" shorter shock will actually get you LESS than a 0.5" drop. But IIRC from reading around on here, what's referred to as an 11" shock is actually sometimes slightly longer, so if you go out looking for 11" shocks, you might wind up with exactly the same thing.

How much lower do you want to go? I'd be worried about starting to rub things inside the fender.

Well, what I thought was since the axle is behind the shock in relation to the pivot point, 1/2 inch of shock length would be more at the axle. I just want to drop the rear about an inch or so. Shouldn't rub the fender at that height. (fingers crossed)

Ive got one of the cheap adjustable lowering blocks from Ebay, I believe it was less than $40 shipped. Don't be put off by its low price, its actually really well made. Good product and I wouldnt hesitate to buy another.

Thanks YOURADHERE! I was looking at those and couldn't figure out how they worked on a bike cause there are no pics of them installed. Yours looks real nice. I think I'll give it a try, and since most are adjustable for height, I have some options there.

YOURADHERE,

How long did you try to get the air shocks with the lowering blocks? I was wondering how efficient it would be to have air shocks and lower the bike to, let's say, 10"?
