Default 883 front disc noise

My front discs are squealing a bit, I assumed this was brake dust so cleaned discs with a rag, Still there - any suggestions. Bike has 3000 miles on the clock and had 5000 service recently. Thanks

Squealing would make me tell you to check the pads. If they're way too low you'll get a metal-metal squeal every time you tap the brakes.

If it is more just a constant rubbing like they are in contact a little when you are not touching the brake you are probably ok. They are meant to rub just a little. Mine did that too much and I solved most of the problem by rebuilding and cleaning the caliper/pistons. They were old and gunked up so the pistons were not retracting completely.

P.S. Why does it only have 3000 miles when you have had a 5000 service done??

Good question! Well I recently purchased it at 2800 from a dealer. The previous owner had purchased it from another dealer a few months ago at about 2300 - they had decided that at over 5 years old it should have a service and so gave it the 5000. I saw their stamp in the book, gave them a bell and they verified it had the recommended interval service. The bike is immaculate - I assume bought by 2 people who fancied a Harley but either did not get on with it or just had it for a luxury and did not ride much. I ride quite a lot - so the situation will change. I had thought of getting to 10,000 before the next service although may change the oil and filter before that - Japanese bikes usually say a mileage and a time for for service whatever is the shorter - Harley seem not to.

Ok, nice. I bought my bike with low miles, but it had been sitting around a lot. Great condition, but just unused.

I ended up having to do a lot of stuff early/replace things I wouldn't have normally because of age. If it had been ridden and taken care of it would not have been as much work.

That said, you can find what needs done and at how many miles here. Everything else just needs checked a little a head of time because of age. Oil is every 5000 miles or usually once per year.

I wouldn't worry about "squealing". It is annoying but not dangerous. When the pads are worn down to metal you will hear/feel a metal on metal sound. Much different.
