Default 5000mi maintenance checks

Anyone got any info on how far in advance and after 5000 miles can you get your 5000 mile checks done. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not aware of any hard and fast rules around that.

Some dealers are particular about that. If your dealer is that way, I wouldn't go too much more after the 5K.

You can actually get the 5K service done at anytime, as it's what services are performed.

As stated above, there are no hard and fast rules. If you are setting off on that grand 5k miles tour, get it done well before you set off, so you can satisfy yourself all is well and regardless of how many miles you currently have. If you are close to it now and your dealer is offering winter rates, get it done now, so you are ready for the new riding season! That will also ensure you aren't competing with others for workshop time, when the good weather finally arrives!

If you are planning on taking it to your local dealer (you didn't actually say), then just give them a call first to make sure they aren't particular about doing the service too early. If you are planning a long trip and are at, say, 4,500 miles, just let them know that fact. I don't believe you will have any issues.

???

Really? 5,000 miles for service is what the Moco recommends for routine maintenance. If you want to get it done at 3 or 4 thousand miles or had to wait until 6 thousand because you were on a road trip or any other reason, that's you're choice. A thousand miles one way or the other isn't going to make any difference at all. I've been we'll past 1,000 miles over as well as under when getting the 5,000 maintenance done. No issues or complaints. It's your bike, not the dealership's.

The 1,000 mile maintenance is probably the most critical to take care of promptly to recheck fasteners and replace fluids after initial break in. The only time it would ever become an issue would be for a warranty claim where the problem could be caused by failure to perform routine maintenance.

If your dealer gives you any problems....go to another dealer. I'm sure the next guy will be more than happy to have your business!

the dealer will be glad to take your money at any time. do it when it is convenient for you. a thousand miles either way is not going to matter to the dealer.

Exactly, dont give them that kind of power over you like that. I've never taken any of my bikes into a dealership for any maintenance services and no one even bats an eye, they can give a $hit. As long as you've got a warranty your golden....relax, your the one with the power.
