Fuel prob

I have an '04 Sporty. The problem is that when the petcock is in the "On" position, the engine dies (as if it were out of fuel). When the petcock is in the "Res" position, I'm good.

Do I need to replace the petcock or just the little filter inside?

Any/all advice is appreciated. Thanks!

The only way to know for sure, is to take it out so you can look at.
I'm going to assume you have more than 1 gal. on gas in the tank............

They wont run without gas...I tried it lots of times...

Yeah, it will do it on a full tank... (4 gal tank).

I had the same problem three years ago on my 06 custom. I pulled the petcock and found the fuel filter clogged, so I cleaned it and fixed my problem. So I bet it is clogged. I clean mine once every two years now. Be sure to install the filter the way it come off, it is also the level pickup for main and reserve.
