I am looking to add mini ape hangars to my '04 1200 custom but I don't like the way they look with the stock pull-back riser. I think the mini apes and the short straight riser found on other sportsters would be ideal. Anyone done this and have pics? Thanks.
Look for 04-06 1200L stock low riser and speedometer bracket, it will fit your application. I just did the dragbar on my 06, I gave my buddy the low riser and speedo bracket/upper clamp, it works great for his 04 883 custom, he is going mini ape as well. I believe the dyna low risers are the same, do a search. Make sure you find the speedometer bracket, unlike other model, the pull back riser offset on the 04 custom is different than other Harley, that means you will not be able to use the same speedo bracket, plus the viewing angle is totally off. Good luck!
I also found a kit that should work for you, Click here. If you can find a pair of short risers and upper clamp, it will still work.

Same here...I have an'05 and I would love to do apes, but I think they look like crap on the stock risers(no offense to those who have 'em and like 'em). I have seen them on other sportys, like the 1200L and they look good. Also the pre '04 with the srtright risers, instead of the curved ones that we have. The dealer doesnt seem to know a damn thing when i ask about changing the risers, ie....will any others fit and which ones. Someone has to have some info..c'mon. Some posts with pics and some help would be great.
I've got them on a Low and a Custom and I'll admit, it looks better on the straight riser.
BUT.........I added the mini-tach to the custom, mounting above the riser and speedo. With that installed, the pullback riser looks like it was used to put the gauges in the right viewing angle. In other words, it looks better.
I'll get pics posted soon. I don't think any in my album show the tach installed.
Another option is to put a tool bag on the front of the bars to hide the riser.
One is a good option if you want apes and a tach. The other is good if you want apes but don't have the money for, or access to, the other riser setup.
Hey 128auto, what did you do to hide the connectors and stuff that were hidden in the riser when you swapped bars?
Click my link in my sig for SportBob. Its an older pic but its a sample. I'll post updated soon. The pullback riser with apes looks better with the tach installed.
I took a couple quick shots after wife and I were riding. I know they are crappy shots but they give you an idea of the difference between the look of the pullback and the straight riser. In the foreground is my Custom (black) with the pullback riser and tach. In the background is her Low (white) with straight riser. Both sets of miniapes are HD 56079-93T, Chrome DWG bars.
