Default Paint/Trim Question

Hi Ya'll,

Newbie looking to buy my first scoot in over 25 years. Have a question concerning the chrome trim piece on top of the tank of the 1200 Custom. Is the tank painted under that piece and can it be removed without damaging the paint? For some reason, the chrome look doesn't measure up to the rest of the bike.

Ozzy

It's actually not even chrome, and yes it can be removed. However, it can be replaced w/ an acutal chrome one through the accessories catalog. It's painted underneath.

Negative, it replaces the original. BTW: If you call HD customer service with a part number, they will fax the instructions to you.

Mines coming off to be replaced by some pinstriping. I think they are ugly as hell.

somebody correct me if I am wrong. The trim piece will come off with dental floss or fishing line and then use WD-40 to take off any remaining adhesive. Supposedly this will not damage the clear coat. I have a body shop owner with a custom chopper who tells me they can pinstripe over the existing clear coat.
