i have mine mounted to the coil bracket but i never moved my coil from the orig. locale and may never move it. just doesn't bother me enough right now to move but i'll probably do it out of boredom this off season.
WOuld you have a close up of the clamp on your bike? I wonder what is the best position to put it. Would it be easier to look at mounted on the tank bolt a few inches higher?
I put it on the tank bolt. I like how it looks and I can see it well.
Only pic I have right now. I can take more later if you want. It's on the lower tank bolt.

You have to use the rubber ring as a spacer and the back plate with the push button to keep it from sliding forward and back. Drill the hole in the mounting plate to 5/16 inch and put on the end of the tank bolt under the nut. You may need to rotate the speedo a little and you also may need to get some slack from the wiring harness by slicing the covering back a little then just wrap the exposed wire with some electrical tape or get a piece of that plastic split wire loom.
