I get you guys in America like low revving lazy loping engines but I bet HD did many hours of testing and probably to destruction to determine how the evo engine would perform and survive running much higher than 4000 rpm.
In my opinion , a H-D is like a "tractor" it will pull all day long... I never worry about revs...it isn't sport bike speed but there is low RPM power and torque. I've pulled the front wheel of my Dyna up shifting to second. I have never done that with my 883 Stage 1, but I have had impressive 0-to 60 times on my 883, as in it surprised me getting up to that speed, you have to rev it though and not be afraid to rev it, it wont scatter and if it does it was going to anyway at any RPM. I think the 883 gets a bad rap when people expect sport bike performance out of it, it is an entry level bike meant to get you around town, when you out grow the power you upgrade that is its place in the market...
I do ride my Dyna more often for sure. I may get out on the Sportster tomorrow though...Ill sell it at some poiint but Ive had it 17 years now so...eh.It isnt that I don't like sportsters. But a small V twin is what it is as is the large V twin.
these days on the slab you need a bike that will jump up in a second or two from 60 to 100 mph and stay there for a little while.

I have a car that I can't cruise at 80 mph with, it also runs on 110. It reality I can cruise it at 100 mph if I want but I'll take a dustpan and broom with me for when that motor I've got grand theft money into scatters.
I bought me sportster because it was the cheapest and newest deal I could find on a Harley. I geared it to make it more ridable. A 1200 kit absolutely wouldn't have fixed what was bothering me. It was the gearing.
There was a point where I actually ordered the 1200 kit but they kept sending me the wrong parts. The plan was to do everything at once but it didn't work out. I was turning it into a 1200 strictly for kicks because that's the kind of stuff I like to do. Not to be a speed demon.
