OKay, So I have an 81 XLS1000, bought at an estate sale, last registered in 1996. So, I changed fluids and filters, put in new spark plugs and a new battery, and sprayed some seafoam in the carb and air cleaner. It actually looked pretty clean. Anyway, It cranks, but doesnt start. Seems to be holding all fluids EXCEPT it is dripping gas pretty rapidly out the overflow line on the carb. I'm a total amateur I'm just okay at googling, but couldn't find a reason why. I'm sure its simple but if someone could tell me that would be GREAT! Any other tips on how I might get her running would be much appreciated. Once I'm sure it will run DEMOLITION BIGINS! and a sweet flat track bike will emerge from the rubble.

See your other thread as I bumped it up with some advice....Oh, and it's frowned upon a bit to start a second thread with the same questions.
sounds like the float is stuck. I didn't read the other thread so I dont know what info was offered but maybe this will help if someone ever searches this topic again.
You are gonna want to take that carb off and take it completely apart to clean it. Its better to do it in your garage than on the side of the highway!

Yes, plus his '81's petcock isn't vacuum operated, so if he shuts the petcock to "OFF" the fuel will stop flowing.
Yeah sorry. I figured I would have better luck with a more direct thread since my other one was pretty general, and I just added the carb question. Thanks again for your responses.
