well i dont have a book right now im getting one some friends told me what it was and wher it is is and i thought someone could help as far as tools i think out of my 10000.00 in snap on i should find some thing to work maybe a pair of vice grips and a hammer. i do have a 1970 firebird formula that runs solid 9's so i think im up to the job thanks for the smug answer
I don't think it was a smug answer at all .... neither Scuba nor I nor anyone else knows how much mechanical know how and/or experience you have. Mechanic 101 says you need to have a service manual at the least. He is right on when he said read the manual first and then think about whether you really want to do it or not.
If anything his answer was direct and to the point. Just my two cents worth.
well i guess myreply was just a product of a bad day at work and i just wanted to get started on the harly befor the 10 days is going to take to get the manule
Front of the engine cases, down low, two wires (sometimes more depending on how many previous owners rewired it!). Disconnect battery, disconnect the leads on the generator, remove 2 long bolts (on right side of engine) holding genny to engine.
After installing new genny, polarize it! That's where you need the manual, or go into the "Classics" section here and search for a great how-to on the polarizing process.
