i been riding my bike and coming up to 10k miles and i noticed in my 2009 nightster i can sit at light and let clutch out in first gear and clutch dosent grab untill lever is almost let go. is that clutch adjustment or clutch itself worn out? clutch does not slip in any gear
+1, if your clutch is grabbing that far out on the travel of the lever, you are close to doing damage to your bike (once it gets bad enough that it never fully lets out, shifting can damage your trans).
The rule I have followed with all of my bikes is that I want the engagement to happen almost exactly in the middle of the travel of the movement of the clutch handle.

just make sure you have a least a "nickle width of free-play"at the lever
check it with clutch hot.
if it is ok , your good to go ,..
btw there is no way a clutch does damage to tranny, only the rider can..
