Default Primary Oil?????

I changed primary with syn 20/50 in my 09 883. Using 75/90 instead will quiet shifting but will this cause clutch issues? Anyone try the heavier lube?

...and drain that Syn out when you can. Use Amzoil or one of the superior lubricants out there.

I am using straight gear 90 GL4 for thousands of miles - works much better than motor oil but clutch sticks a bit on cold starts. Opened the clutch recently and it looks brand new, even the spring plate I removed to put 3 discs back in its place.

The MoCo's preferred recommendation for primary/tranny oil is their Formula+ which is an ~85w Gear Oil. So yes, a 75-90 syn Gear Oil is an excellent choice. I've run Mobil-1 75-90 syn Gear Oil for over 75,000 miles in mine.

I use Mobil 1 75/90 syn gear oil. Shifts just fine. I also use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20/50 motor oil in the oil tank. It also works well

After having Syn 3 at the 1,000 mile check up, then Amsoil 20w50 at 5,000, I settled on Formula+ at 10,000 and it "seems" to be the quietest and smoothest. 25w60 RevTech tamed some of my engine noise.
