So bad thing happened. My 2002 1200 custom fell over from me doing something stupid with it that i dont even want to say. Broken break lever and messed up turn signal. I am tight on money and its 100 bucks for 2 new levers from harley. My question is how hard is it to replace the clutch and break lever your self. I have the service manual but am terrified to even change my grips. Any help would be great. Have to get them from harley if i have them put them on. Thanks guys.
That sucks it was a fairly easy task the brake was real easy while the clutch was a tad bit harder but not much, I replaced mine with black levers I got off eBay they were drag specialties and cost me $26 shipped hell you could have my stockers for free if you want em I'd have to dig around my shop for em
man that sux but chit happens... If I had a brake lever & turn signal that would work on a 1200 I'd send them to ya, hell if I was closer I'd even come over and put them on.
I'm sure there's spare parts box's full of that stuff laying around in someone's garage out your way...just sayin'
Hey guys thanx. Makes me feel better. I still feel extremely stupid. But i am going to read into the service manual and see if i can do it. I am just intimidated. Thanx again though. Its good to know people can make you not feel so stupid. Let me know if you find those break levers lol.
Don't feel stupid about whatever-it-is-happened. I did my share with my bike also! As to making the repair yourself, you should do it. I started being not comfortable removing the seat to see what was underneath it to changing turn signals, taillight, shocks, license plate, to recently changing gaskets in the rocker box and this weekend to swap handlebars. It's a learning process and the service manual, along with that forum, will help you go through it without having to go through a mechanic.
If you have the book then read it a few times, go to the bike and then take it slow, you will get there and before you know it you will be working on the bike all the time.
