Has anyone put forward controls on a XL50 yet, or is thinking about it?
I'm wondering if the standard after-market kits fit ok, or genuine HD only and whether the bars would need to go on a riser? I like the mid-mount pegs for control, but with the seat height about the same as the 1200C and me being 6 feet tall, I find them a bit cramped.
I installed the chome forward pegs on my XL50 so that it now has two sets of pegs. It works good to be able to change up from the mid pegs to the forwards once you get settled into high gear. The HD kit comes with 3 different adjustments that you pick from when you bolt them to the frame.
I have the Polished Forward controls being instaled by my dealer early next week. The frames have not changed for the 07 so the controls from 04-06 should work fine, and I think the 2007 Sportster Customs have factory installed controls on them already. Should be the same for XL50 unless you change the header pipes. Then you need to consult the exhaust mfg to see if the pipes will work with forward controls. I am leaving the stock header pipes on my XL50 and we are installing the Vance & Hines Straight Shot slip on exhaust pipes. Should be no issues. I will update pics next week when the stage 1 upgrades and controls are completed.
