Question Can you identify this sporty motor?

Could you guys tell me what year this motor is? I can't find anything that tells me what the partial VIN represents.

CAMX147321

I need to get a manual and parts catalog for it and I don't even know what year it is...ughhh!

Thanks for any responses ahead of time!

From what I can find:

1986 to 1996 Sportsters
5th, 6th and 7th digits are the model code.

CAM = XLH883 CAN = XLH1100 CEM = XLH883 Hugger CAP = XLH1200 CGP = 1200 Custom CFM = XLH883 Deluxe CHP = 1200 Sport

Yeah, I saw that, but I'm not sure it's that year. I was told it was a 1996, but then the X doesn't make any sense. I was thinking it was a 1999(X) CA = "XLH" M = "883 EVO XL"???

"CAMX147321"

I assume this is the shortened version on the engine case if I read your post correctly.

CAM means it is an XLH883.
The X means it is a 1999 model.
The 147321 is just the serial number.

Thanks man, that's what I figured it was, but I just wanted someone to verify before I go get the manual on the thing. Apparently, I need to pull the main tranny shaft and replace it and I have no clue how to do this or what tools I need.
