I Love my iron 883! its in stock form right now and, I am planning on doing some modifications to it over the winter. The first and foremost things I want to do to it is Performance mods and put a double seat so i can take my ol lady on it.
Leo the Iron is fine stock. Light weight and powerful for its size. My opinion: A Sportster is not a Bagger so keep a One-up or a Badlander Seat (if the rider fits then let her ride).
Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL FOR people injecting money back into the economy instead of saving it for themselves.
I just never understood why anyone would spend all that dough to make a harley still not as fast as most stock Ducs, instead of just enjoying the harley for what it is. Plus, 50 mpg average for the entire year isn't bad.
Just my two cents. I don't really like to go that quick though.
You said it right. If you want a Duc get one. But a Harley does everything right plus it gets 50 mpg plus. 1200s are the best all around bike, and I have ridden many. Big Monsters are clutch eaters, am I right!

But thats the beauty of the hobby, and the Hot Roddin and thats what HD is and was all about in my opinion. customization and personal touches which make it fun! plus it makes it all the more rewarding to smoke a bike that didnt expect to be beaten.
I will have to respectfully disagree with Robotech and say that actually, the stage I 1200 kit from HD does include the 1200 heads. I have done the stage I kit and it makes a helluva difference. The gear ratios on the 883 are lower. With the lower gears and the 1200 kit the bike will accelerate very well! The only problem is you won't have much top end. My plan is to leave the gearing as is but go up one tooth on the front sprocket... maybe. Can't decide because light to light it sure is fun as it is.

the bottom line is it makes a huge noticeable difference, and that's what I'm after. However, I do want a kick in the pants when I open up that throttle cause I love speed! I know I'll be happy with the list of mods and suggestions regarding the 1250 kit, heads, cams Etc... Gonna keep you all posted on the 2011 Iron build booyaka!
Skidrow is right...I never considered the SE 1200 kits because I couldn't get it for my 1999...so it was kind of off my radar. NRHS has 1200 kits and 1250 kits (both do not include heads) and I keep forgetting the SE kits do. Thanks Skid for pointing that out...

($700 for the 1250 kit, $550 for the head work...$1250 for the NRHS setup, $1200 for the SE Stage 1 setup...) Of course, you still need an Intake for the NRHS setup and that comes with the SE setup so there is that difference of about $130...so it's about $180 more to go the 1250 route.
I was wrong on one count. Only the stage I kit has the heads. The stage II kit comes with the cams instead. Very strange that they wouldn't include both in the stage II kit.

This is what I did for riding two up. Its the HD Passenger pillion. It would only take about five minutes after some practice to switch over from single to double rider when the mood struck me. My GF liked it, it is a pretty thick passenger seat. The only thing I would recommend is to put a soft cloth inbetween the bottom of the seat and the fender, no scratches yet. I actually have it for sale right now in the classified forum. I decided to go with the 48 solo and passenger seat, although my GF didnt like that choice!
