Default 883c Electrical problem

I have a 2000 model 883 custom with sidecar and pneumatic shift kit, I replaced the batttery and within 50 miles the battery was down and the bike would not start, changed the bettery and turned of the compressor for the air shift and within fifty miles it was dead again.
The bike runs great as long as you don't turn it or try to use the compressor, I'm puzzeled as to wether it's just another bad battery of if it could be the generator, or something. Any Ideas, all help is apprecaited.

In the sidecar is an air compressor and pressure shut off switch for a pneumatic gear shifter (Im a left leg amputee and have the air shift so I can change gears without using my foot.

Sorry for the joke, not so funny now. It sounds as if you have isolated it down to the compressor. Start with the power source. Make sure you have good connections on both ends and no chaffed wire in between. Also make sure the compressor is on "switched" power. You can also check current draw at the battery. This will show if you have a power draw while the switch is off.

Possible the draw is more then the charge rate with a generator. They don't put much out at low rpm's.

Dont worry bout the joke, I figure if I cant laugh at my own situation I have no business laughing at all.
But back to the subject at hand, I'm not sure if its the compressor or not because even with the compressor switched off I still can't get the battery to build up but it still has enough power to run the headlights, taillights, etc. as long as I dont switch on the compressor or the signal lights.

An auto electric shop can monitor the load amps and charging amps. This may cost a few bucks but if you want a quick fix that would be the way to go....anything else is guesswork.
