Hello Everyone!
I saw a couple other threads on there regarding Motorcycle Lifts and Stands but most were about Dynas and such. I was under the impression that maybe those need a special kind of Jack judging by the thread. So I thought I would ask my fellow sporty riders this question before winter comes and its time to store it.
I have a 2011 Iron and am looking for a Motorcycle Jack/Stand. I would like something that I can lift it up, do some maintanence, and leave it there for 4 or 5 months and not worry. I would like to stay under the $200 mark so I can use that money for some more parts!
The Harbor Freight jack is a popular one. My father-in-law has one he uses for his softail. If you can swing another $100, you can get the Harbor Freight lift table for $299 with a coupon (found in the back of most bike magazines). It makes working on the bike a pure joy.
Note: I also added a HF wheel chock since the wheel clamp that comes with the lift is garbage. I think I paid $30 for the chock.
I bought the J&S jack and I've been totally happy with it. They are pricey
but I like to buy American Made products when I can and keep jobs alive
here. Once up on the lift, there are stops to support the weight so you
can take the pressure off the hydraulic jack. Great jack and easy to get
under your bike without driving up on 2x4's.
I have a J&S I like too. however, I wouldn't leave my bike on it for months. With stock pipes, part of the bike's weight rests on the exhaust support no matter how you arrainge it. I'm not crazy about that.
avoid Pitbulls. They assured me that the dyna lift would work with my sportster, which it does not. They refused to accept a return.
Wow, thanks for the tips everyone. Especially the one about Pitbulls! I was looking at the black widow jack, or maybe a craftsman one. Anyone have one of these?
Thank you for buying American. We need more like you.

Here's what I use for my Road King and the Nightster. I've lowered my RK and the Nightster is already low, so I have to roll the front tire onto a 2x4 to be able to get the jack under either bike, but it works well and would be fine holding the bike for months on end. Ive had mine on it for 3 weeks straight and no issues.
