Default Decel Popping

I have a 2009 Nightster I installed the pipes myself, Vance and Hines Short Shots Staggered with X14ied's and have significant decel popping, I am wondering if this is normal, because reading other posts, most say that their decel popping was eliminated or significantly reduced by adding the X14ied's. I added the pipes and ied's at the same time so I don't have any experience with the just the pipes, any insight is appreciated...

Your always gonna have popping with those pipes. They are basically a drag pipe so there is no way to get ride of it. Even a dyno tune wont completely eliminate it, so you'll just have to learn to live with it

Without a tuner such as a SEPST, Power Commander, Power Vision, TTS, etc. you're not going to be able to tune it out.
If you just installed the pipes. Ride them a while, and then give the exhaust flange bolts nuts another 1/2 turn. Should help some to seat the gaskets.

You don't need a tuner. Every dealer wants to sell you a tune because they make a lot of money from it. I worked at a large HD dealer for a few years. Your stock ECM's map, can be easily modified by any competent dino tech.

If I had no decel popping, I'd be asking how to tune it in!

I did similar on Samson Pipes with no baffles. After experimenting with baffles, found something calle "Thunder Monsters" that put just enough back pressure, without killing the sound. Mine was so bad it sounded like a Jake Break whenever I Decelerated. Not sure if they are still around though.

Not to argue, but isn't taking it to the dealer to modify the ECM actually "tuning" the bike. My point was with Xieds it is most likely you cannot tune the pop out. With a tuner the owner of the bike could tune the pop out.
Even though I have tuned the pop out of my ride. I still get them every now and then when it turns cool, or I have ridden for a long time. I just let the bike cool completely, and give the flange nuts a little nudge, and it goes away. There are a few factors why a bike pops on decel, and it has been covered time and time again on this forum and others.

I was having the same problem with my short shots and X14ied's. When I first indtalled the ied's there wasn't much popping at all, but it seemed to increase over time. I checked the exhaust flange bolts and sure enough they needed tightening. I torqued them down and the popping was reduced alot but I dont expect it will ever go away completely. I am OK with that.

I never had any issues with decel popping on my Sporty with a Stage 1/download and V&H slip-ons. I am, however, having this issue with my new Heritage. The bike sounds and runs great and I am keeping it as is after researching the topic and discussing it with several techs. Don't engine break as much.
