OldFenderGuy, The wrench at the HD Dealership said same thign... said he has seen ShortShots actually lower max HP on bigger bikes, but with 1200R they are THE way to go.
*shrug* I don't know -- I just bought them for the looks ;-)
I just talked to another local shop(honda and Kawi) where I bought my last bike and the guy there told me probably 2 hrs on the dyno to get her properly tuned. He didn't have the harley software and was willing to load my disk in the comp and run it for me. He told me probably $200 total with them figuring out how to use the software. I don't think that is totally unreasonable.
I still think the harley shop should re-run it for me, I haven't talked to them about it, but it is deff, too lean and I paid them to "dyno tune" it as the work order says.
Just had my 883 Stage 1 upgrade a couple of weeks ago. I felt my power wasn't as good as stock was. Several guys that I work with said it was running too rich. I took it back and asked the dealer to tweak it a little and they got it better this time. the tech told me it is running 5% over stock at 3500 r.p.m. Gas mileage is better too. As stock it was getting about 70, after stage 1 about 45, now around 65. I can accept that.
I went to the dealer today and the tech told me that it was fine the way it was. If the a/f was at 12.5:1 then the biek would fall on its face. He said that they are shiped way leaner than that to meet emissions and that I shouldn't worry unless it got up to like 15 or 16:1 A/F.
Well I got a little over 500 miles on my bike since the 1250 conversion so I asked the guy who did it at Power Factory if he could dyno it and he said he would for free. Can't beat that.
My bike has the following...
1250 conversion, stock 883 heads, stock 883cams, SE 1200 ignition, 45/170 jetting, SE a/c and SE II slip ons. I added the SE 1200 ignition afterwards because I was getting some pinging but it didn't solve it and to be honest the 883 ignition I had on before this dyno run felt like it made the bike run a little stronger but maybe I'm imagining it. I am using 93 octane gas and I have tried using octane booster, colder plugs, and the new ignition to try stopping the pinging but none have worked. I have a Daytona Twintec adjustable ignition on order now so maybe that will help. Also, the shop's dyno doesn't show air fuel ratio so I couldn't check that. The 45/170 jetting was set that way when it was an 883 and had the taxes paid and has not been changed. Anyone have any recommendations for thejetting and can I do it without taking off the carb completely? I think I can squeeze a little more hp and torque out with some tuning...to be continued
Thanks
