Also the pattern doesn't look like it leaked out. If something was leaking (most likely while riding and with wind on it) the pattern would be more stream-like and spread to something behind it like your oil reservoir. This looks like a splat, like it came from above. Just saying.
Very good point. Looks like someone spilled something on it when it was hot & it stained or discolored the chrome.
Are you using any harsh cleaners when you wash the bike?? I know Wesleys white wall cleaner works good on chrome, but it's hell on aluminum for example.
Thanks everyone...what ever it was also made it to the case...whitish stain...I did go to have a brew but kept my eye on her (paranoid)...showed it to my dad and he agrees that doesn't seem like oil...rode her today for about an hour keeping my eye on it and no oil came out...hopefully I can get that stain out...
That stuff is really bad for aluminum. Do you leave it parked outside? is there a cat getting into your garage? It's that or some freak occurrence. back when we used to routinely leave car windows open those little F'ers used to jump in the car and smell it up. very hard to get rid of that smell though. if it's not a cat, I'm stumped...
I parked under a tree last fall at school one day and came out to the sight of my bike being used as a toilet by a gazillion birds. From that day on I vowed to hit any sparrow I could while on my bike. I've been unlucky so far...
Wipe it off and see if it comes back. That looks more like your cat sprayed it. Put some more miles on it and save some trips in to the dealer. Actually looks like someone cleaned it with something and left a film on it. When it got hot it left it looking like that. Seen those spots on mine like that. Usually a real leak is a leak and ends up being a drip.
