Default Battery tender?

Gonna put new battery on the bike and had some questions about a battery tender. I plan on running cig lighter receptical to use gps on my phone. I was thinking a battery tender would ensure I keep a good charge if I hard wire it and keep it on the bike. Am I wrong? I don't have any experience with these things so any input would be great.

You can actually buy a cig lighter plug that will plug into the battery tender pigtail.

The battery tender is really only needed if the bike is sitting without being used for numerous days / weeks. If you are riding frequently you really don't need it unless the bike goes into winter storage. Out of habit I plug my bike in every time I am done riding or when it is being stored for the winter.

+1 Battery tender to lighter socket with tender plug on other end. I too always use the tender when I'm not riding. I'm in the service industry so can't take the bike out until I get home. So I only ride after work and weekends.

That will work if the cigarette lighter isn't switched by the ignition.

If you are wiring in a pigtail for your tender, you can at the same time run a longer one under the tank to your handlebars. If you mount your phone in a holder you can run a pigtail to that.

I just did the same thing. Ran the connector that came with my tender from the battery to a 12V cigarette lighter type receptacle on the front frame. Needed to buy the 12V receptacle and the wire/connectors to span the distance but pretty basic. Now I can just connect the tender to the front with the male end connector from the tender.
