No offense, but only thing I've managed to do with those is destroy fastener heads QUICK. I've never had a problem using normal hand tools. Worse case scenario is cut a slot in it and use a BEAST of a screwdriver. I don't think he'll have any issues once he gets a decent T30 in there. There's no reason a T30-T40 should fail under 35 ft.lbs. like every single Lisle ever made.

No offense taken...I have been a mechanic most of my life (near 60 now) and just passing along what works. The problem with Torx is maintaining enough pressure and keeping the bit straight...something the hand impact does well. Overcoming thread lockers will most certainly require more force than the torque specification for any fastener. "Initial shock" is the key here.

I hear ya, and you have twice the experience I do. My uncle gave me one of those and I just never had any luck / got attached to it except ONE time I just remembered. It got the screw out of a dirtbike front master cylinder cover that I had boogered up from not using / having a nice crisp P2 bit.

well....got the bastard out but not after losing a few good men in the process. hopefully sears will live up to their motto and replace these freakin torx wrenches. a couple buds came over and helped out and we ended up using a set of needle nose channel locks on the inside of the bolt and the torque side of the t30 t handle at the same time and she budged loose. thanks for the input everyone. in the words of edbassmaster, would ya look at that..lol.

Yea, I sent USPS Priority flat-rate (medium) for $10 and change. If not today, tomorrow for sure.

First mod I did was to unshroud the belt. I just like the look and ease of inspection. You could always chop the bitch like Ergo.
