Default Transmission linkage???

Hey guys going over my scoot today getting ready for a ride tomorrow with the OL and I discovered the rear transmission shift linkage moves side to side. So I took the linkage off the rear, leaving the front linkage attached to the heel toe shifters. I lifted the scoot and got an allen on the linkage bolt and the thing was really tight, but I can still move the leaver side to side. It isn't so loose that the leaver spins on the transmission. The bike still shifts normal.

I was wonder, is that rear leaver designed to move side to side, or do i have a bigger issue cooking?

Might check how far on the pinion the linkage arm is, sometimes the arm works itself toward the outside of the pinion (i.e. away from the tranny and towards the primary) which causes that allen bolt to no longer go into the groove on the pinion shaft.

+1 on that. If it is loose and sliding .pull out that allen head bolt and add some lock tight to that bolt and re-torque. That helped mine to stay tight and not loosen and slide. If it keeps loosening up you could do damage to your splines on the shaft or stiip your linkage arm.
