I changed the rod ends on my stock shift linkage over to heim joints....that was the easy part. Upon doing this work... I noticed the verticle rod that connects the transmission to the shift linkage was loose....no problem, the pinch bolt was loose right? Wrong...the bolt was tight as a *****...naturally. So...after cussing out this bike again....and thinking this winter was going to be packed-full-of-fun yanking off the primary to replace that little arm...I calmed myself down and thought of an idea.
I took the bolt out of the arm (5/16" x 24 allen head cap screw). Low and behold there was a section of the threads that were wiped out....so I got a tap to chase the threads in the arm.....everything felt good when chasing (didn't get hung up or break the tap!)
I put in a new bolt...tightened it down...and presto...problem solved!
So...keep this in your arsenal of fixes...and keep an eye on that linkage arm!! If the splines in that arm get wiped out....you will have a very...very bad day!!
