I am new to riding and bought an '05 883 sportster. I want to put some exhaust on it. I do not want drag pipes but I do want something a lot louder than stock. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.
My son has the SEII on his bike. They sound ok but I think there are better sounding mufflers with a deeper throaty sound. Try these http://www.epiflex.com/rush_sportster.html I just put a set on my Road King Custom and they sound a lot better than the SEII I had on it. I think it want be long before I have my son getting him a pair. This is the best place with the best price to get them Jireh Cycle http://www.jirehcycle.com/ I had mine in four days.
Slip-on mufflers: Cycle Shack (my recommendation) or SEII (work great, but pricier)
If you want full pipes instead: Bassani, Thunderheader, etc. (drag pipes included, but not the only ones offered)...
You can also check out www.jpcycles.com to see what's available and then shop around if you want a better price...
Also, check out the forums at www.xlforum.net for a LOT of good info just about Sporty's...
The guy at my local HD said the screamin eagle pipes would not make that big of a difference in the sound. I have a guy that I work with tell me to get to cycle-shack. Could I knock the baffels out of my stock pipes?
I wouldn't knock out or drill out the baffles unless you want to kill power because of back pressure reduction or want it to sound like a lawnmower on steroids :-)
The SE's definitely sound better than stock; the Cycle Shacks sound better to some (somewhat louder and deeper)...
Howdy Brian, I think that as you can see, that there are several ideas about which exhaust to get. What I would recommend, if possible, go and listen to as many different bikes that you can and maybe you will find one that has a sound that is right for you. When I bought my Harley, the dealer fired up a bike that had the SE2's and I was happy with those. But as you can see, there are a lot of different ideas about which is the better one. Good luck
