The left one's a piece of cake. The right one's a little more tedious, but not hard. Just remember, the glue is for the left grip ONLY!
The tedious part of the right grip is getting the ferrules from the throttle cable in there just right. Go for it, you've gotta start somewhere.

The left one you can cut it with a razor blade and split it open. The right side is a bit tricky, the only thing you have to watch is the throttle cables, there are 2 little inserts at the cable end, they might fall off when you pull them out, other than that, you will be fine. Don't forget throttle cable adjustment after the right grip installed. I am not sure what grips you are getting, some Harley factory grip does not require glue, it has a little notch to line up, it will lock in place without spinning. Alex

There is a throttle cable adjuster on the cable itself. Took me a while to find it. You will need to loosen it up to get the grip off. Good luck. Took me about an hour to do. WILL NEVER DO AGAIN! It kinda sucked.

Handgrip changes are a definite DIY little project. I put on a pair of Kuryakyn's ISO Grip handgrips with their "Throttle Boss" and it only took about a total of 45 minutes.

Far as I'm concerned that smaller diameter grips they started using on the Sportsters in 2004 are a joke, and just didn't feel right to me.

Changing them isn't a big deal, but you do have to be careful.

I don't know, it would depend on how much the dealer wants to charge.

Not a big deal. A service manual will explain everything, as will the instructions that come with the grips.

Go for it. I also put on the ISO grips with the throttle boss. RTFM and take your time - it's a DIY project for sure.

I did mine on the RK just a few weeks ago. Had to remove the left instrument cover to access it. Then used a screwdriver to loosen it up inside. A few twists, and the grip slid right off. Can reuse it if I want to. Didn't need glue for mine.
The left is a bit trickier, but still easy. Just get it apart, watch out for the brass inserts! Replace the grip, install the inserts in the cable, and off you go! I didn't have to do any cable adjustments at all!
