Default Sissy bars

I checked out H-D and got a little lost. I want to put a small or medium sissy bar on my bike but don't want to pay for all the other crap. Any suggestions?

I am going to shorten & widen an older sissybar that I picked up at a swap meet a few years back. I also found step by step instructions to build one in my 1970 Sportster Chopper Guide.

My collection of motorcycle magazines begin around 1969 with Street Chopper. Those magazines showed detailed pictures and articles to build frames, front ends, sissybars because at that time the aftermarket stuff was just beginning to be available. So since I still don't have a lot of money to just buy what I want I search my old mags for how to's & build what I want myself.

I got a medium low sissy bar with pad and a skull emblem AND the rigid sideplates off ebay for $150. So I saved at least
100 bucks.

DIY looks great on older bikes. You expect that. Not sure on a 2007 though.

I think Dee has a good idea with Ebay. I initially owned the rigid kit and sold it to a forum member when I picked up the detachable setup. It sold for about half of the retail cost and I only had it on my bike for a month.

Surdyke HD and a couple other dealers offer 10-20% off on web orders all the time. Even with shipping you can come in under what buying full retail will cost.

Another option is to look in Drag Specialties or JP Cycles catalogs. You can find comparable parts for less dough.

All that said, life is pretty good for us with Sporties and accessories. Go price the same gear for a big twin. I got sticker shock when I started shopping for accessories for my Softail.

Does anyone make an aftermarket Sissy bar plate that will accomodate the HD detachable hardware ?

Speaking of Ebay and Sissybars, has anyone seen either of these setups in person?

The first one is made by Krome Werks. It does not come with the pad in the picture, but the price looks good. I think the second one looks a little "different." I'm seriously considering buying the first one, but want to make sure it isn't some cheapo version of the real thing.

Thanks,
Barry
