There are lots of aftermarket tachs that work for all Sportsters. I think anything with a manual transmission should have a tach. I always wonder when I see a car with an automatic that has one.

The black one blends into the m/c pretty well when it's off. The display IS visible in daylight.

I bought a Dakota Digital for my Nightster and LOVE it. Just a tach was gonna cost me $259. For an extra $100 I got a tach, gear indicator, top speed, 1/4 mile time, and fastest 0-60 time

Quoted for truth. I just installed a black one that mounts perfectly to the brake reservoir. Works flawlessly and very easy to install. Highly recommended.

[/IMG]dont know what kinda "look" ya going for but i was the same way like to know what rpm im at. i didnt want the dual gauge up front and wasnt shelling out the price for screaming eagle shift light. if ya have the speedo relo already this may be a option for ya and the route i went. i bought a shift light and dig tach readout off summit part #5343. no tach boxes just power (ign) ground and signal (pin #3 in the speedo connector: for my 09 nightster anyways) set up the light and good to go. added it to my speedo relo which i did with autometer part #5204. heres some pics sorry for the crappy cell pics but ya get the idea.[/IMG]

I haven't read one bad review on the Dakota Digital. Saving up for one myself. Search Dakota Digital 3204 on eBay. Couple people selling them new for around $320.

Just ride it until you hit the rev limiter. Then you will know when to shift
