Default Touring guy needs some help :)

Hey guys,

So I was helping my buddy do some cleaning on his bike tonight, and when he took off the saddle bags I found a lot of "wear spots" that shouldn't be there. After closer inspection, I realized that the previous owner had put one of the cheaper lowering kits on it which of course changed the angle of the shock.

I'm planning on moving everything back to it's right place and getting the stance back where it should, but he doesn't own a manual, and everything I have for reference is for my FLHR. All I'm looking for is the torque specs for the top and bottom bolts on his shocks, anyone have that info they could pass along?

Thanks in advance for any help, appreciate it.

Lower & uper shock mounting bolts = 35-40 ft/lbs (2009 Touring Service Manual - torque values).

I suppose I could have listed his year, it's a 2004 1200 sportster, still good to go with the 45-50 wanabe?

Thanks again guys, appreciate the help.

i double checked and my post was what the manual says... without any disrespect to iceman, if it was me i would go with what i posted. my service manual is for a 2008 sportster- either that or try to confirm the 2004 settings. maybe iceman's are for a big twin?

Works for me, thanks again you guys. Too bad I didn't realize he had that cheap lowering kit before the bags got so banged up, and before he took that 1200mi trip on it last summer

Have a good one folks, safe riding...

wanabe's correct - my specs are from Touring manual & I didn't know you needed specs for Sporty. Sorry for mis-info & glad you got the correct #'s.
