Default Help! Sketchy cornering problem...

I actually found some twisty roads in the UAE the other day. Great fun as it was the bike did object to my cornering! Cranked over about as far as I could without grounding my V & H pipes, the back end of my bike was squirming and stepping out. Why??

My Iron is lowered and has forward controls, all done properly by HD. I'm wondering if this is the reason for the sketchy performance as my mate's stock Iron was settled and steady on the same ride.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

HD DXB

Are you saying you were not hitting any hard parts?

If that is the case, the first thing I would check is the tire pressure.

tire pressure was the first thing I thought of too, also have you checked rear wheel alignment?

Default Tire pressure...

Yep, no hard parts touched. I checked pressures before heading out 30psi front 36psi rear, maybe I'll let a couple out of the back...

Cheers!

Default Rear alignment!

Ah yeah! I'm not sure how to do that on my Harley, it's my first having come from superbikes.

Thanks I'll get it checked.

In my experience the mids will drag worse, and I was so wadded up with them that I wasn't comfortable with the more "aggressive" position.

The Sporty is a whole different bike and the handling can't be compared. That said, the stock Dunflop tires that come on a Sporty suck when it comes to handling. A set of Avon Venom's or Metzler 880's will make a world of difference in the twisties.

It definitely can't be compared. What I can say though is mid pegs will help react better to those moments where the rear end does cut loose a little. The next question is what tire are you running? The stock Dunlops are terrible in anything but, perfect conditions. My rear end cut loose a couple times while I had them. I suggest going with metzeler, avon or pirelli. All have proven their ability to perform and will give you much more confidence in the bike.
