I started riding in 1961 and I got my very first two wheel ticket in 1997 for doing 69 in a 55 zone. This was out in the country on a road that was deserted except for me and this highway patrol cop who had radar. He had me locked up before he was close enough for me to identify the car. Thank goodness for traffic school. No points and no insurance increase.

1987 or1988, on my 69 bonnie,which i still have,i got

speeding[&:]
no insurance
no license[]

he almost gave me one for inspection but explained that the license bracket bent up and wheel rubbed most off but luckily it had the lower years showing which meant it had to be the following year the inspection was to go out.

Less than 3 months. They had a speed trap set up on my way to work and got clocked at 58 in a 45. At the time I didn't have a motorcycle permit either. The LEO gave me a disappointed look, took a walk around my bike, and told me if everything checked out he would give me a non-moving violation ticket. That was the happiest I ever was after getting a ticket. Found out later the officer is a regular rider.

I can tell you from experience, we mainly look at the rice burners. They are the ones driving 120+ on these small FM roads that cause the problems. The HD guys, they may get up to 50-60. They enjoy the ride and want to live another day. Worked many fatals on rice burners but only one on a HD and it wasnt his fault.

Thank you bro! I see the crotch rockets all the time ride like idiots. Check out the vids at superbikes.uk. One guy did a burnout inside a house. Another shows a spedo cam of a guy going through town doing 170. Just plain insane!! A month ago on the news, a guy on a crotch rocket was going up and down his street at a high rate of speed doing wheelies and crashed into a house. Looked like a bug on a windsheild. Very devistating. Since I have owned my bike, I daily have near hits. Drivers just don't watch what they are doing. Down here in Dallas we call it the housewife on the cellphone syndrome. That will get you hurt!!

I know what you mean. Im south of you and the metroplex crotch rockets come down this way to ride in the country. Got 11 bikes the other day at 128+ and the last two were the "slow" ones at 112. I got those two. The corner they were coming around when I got them couldnt have been safe at 50 in a car. You know, the funny thing is most crotch rockets that Ive delt with are ridden by doctors and lawyers and other"well to do" folks. I would have taken them for young, immature people.

I got one last summer on my ZX-636 going 89 in a 55 while passing on a double yellow. Very stupid. Could have easily killed my self or some one else. I have since sold the rocket and bought a 1200 custom. I have a one year old son that I have to be around to teach to ride some day. The rocket was fun while it lasted but, it wasn't that comfortable anyhow. Most of the time I felt like it was in control and I was just sitting there, the HD is almost funner to ride, I am runnign the show.

It just doesn't pay to ride stupid. I'd rather just cruise. That's why I bought the Sportie. And like Harley always says..

Ride Safe.
