Default downshift Q

OK I was wondering if I downshift from 3rd to second but hold the clutch in and keep the shifter lever down a bit longer will it go into 1st? Ive been riding for a year and Im pretty sure its user error on this I just want to check. My bike in class did this I would down shift hard and it would go from 3 to 2nd to 1st in one shift. My Honda last year did it too and now my Harley. I figure it had to be me because hell whats the chance of 3 bikes having messed up clutches Let me know thanks.

I know when upshifting mine wont go into the next gear unless I completely let off the shifter before trying to shift again. This happens often with a pair of boots I occasionally wear, the toe is thicker and doesnt allow the shifter to come down all the way between shifts. Id imagine downshifting would be the same, unless you let off completely it wont shift.

The Harley's shifter drum shouldn't move more than one gear setting for every time you hit the shifter. If it is sliding gears, it might be time to get your shift drum checked out.

That or your lever has some extreme travel and is pushing it through two changes in one swing when it should only move it one.

if your kicking your shifter had enough to shift 2 gears at once I would expect something to break pretty quickly.

I'm on my 6th bike and I've never experienced what you describe, but I've also never kept pressure on after the shift. I'll try it both ways tomorrow.

I never keep pressure on the shifter, I shift, lift, shift. I've never had to apply much force to the shifter, only deliberate full presses on the lever.
