Just wondering your guys take on this. Sometimes when I turn my key and switch the bike to "run" I can't hear the starter spinning. I'm wondering if it's going? It hasn't failed to start yet.
If this is the case are there any good aftermarket options?

Huh?
It's not supposed to spin until you hit the Start button.
Guess I'm confused on what the noise is. It's after I hit the run before I hit start there's usually like a buzzing noise. After some reading the fuel pump makes this noise? Sometimes it doesn't though.
after you hit the run button the fuel pump will prime. takes about 2 seconds. it does make a noise. look at any sportster v&h pipe demo on youtube to find someone starting one up. if yours doesn't sound the same elaborate more but like cHarley said the starter should only spin when you hit the little lightning bolt.
Fuel pump priming. Sometimes it's louder, sometimes it's not. It depends on how much it needs to prime. You should only worry if it doesn't make the noise and then doesn't start.
Fuel pump didn't prime today. Bike didn't start either, engine tried to turn but nothing. Moved relays and the fuel pump fuse for the spare one and it primed and started.
When you turn the key and hit the run button, the fuel pump pressurizes on efi bikes. Thats the whirring noise you are hearing. If you replaced fuse and its started, sounds like corrosion. Dieelectric grease on fuse prongs.
Left me stranded tonight, did the dielectric grease, they were alredy greased well enough though. Even replaced the fuse nothing. When I hit the run button nothing happens, no noise. I can hear a "click" that sounds like it's coming from around the fuse box. Maybe the relays, guess I'll see tomorrow.
Update, called napa this morning and they had one of the relays I needed Napa part # AR614. The other relay the guy told me he could have by noon. Went and picked them up, went to the bike greased them and slapped them on. Fuel pump pressurized right away and the bike started up.
Think this fixed the problem knock on wood. Apparently from reading on xlforums it's a very common problem with the relays going bad. I may pick up an extra set just in case.
