Some people have asked me: isn't that a step backwards? My reply is that I just want
to put the SPORT back into my Sportster! I also do some off road riding so this was a
logical choice.

Oh...never mind. You got the look you want, which we all know is the only thing important.

The only really good reason for a belt to chain swap is unlimited selection of overall ratios...the rest is purely cosmetic to most user's. If I had a choice I would still be running a belt.

I've done that with at least two chains. I've also had the drive shaft u joint go bad resulting in a tow truck.
My BMW u joints went bad at about 30k, chains are good for half that if your lucky. I have 25k on my belt and a clean rear wheel and I don't carry a can of oil.
Maybe it's the way you ride your bikes. As you can see I baby mine and have never lost a rear chain. This photo was taken 40 years ago.

Pretty bitchin, been thinking about doing a conversion. Just wasn't ballsy enough to start buying parts haha. Does it fit under all the covers? And was it super hard?
If you have an 06 or newer XL you will need to run a 25/26T trany sprocket to clear the passenger peg bosses on frame. Wide tires requires bigger offsets. I used the 1/2" offset to put the center of the chain to about the same as the belt. Also I am using stock width rear tire. You should keep an eye on the bottom mounting boss of the sprocket cover. It is pretty close and might rub when chain brakes in. You might have to remove some metal for clearance.
