Default 883 on highway

hey im a newbie on the form, i have been riding for two years now on my dads 2001 bmw f650gs and i really want to get a harley as my next bike. i like the heritage and the look of the sportsers especially the iron 883. the only thing is that i've read some reviews that say the bike suffers on the highway at higher speeds. i am 5'10 156 pounds and would mostly use the bike for highway riding. does anybody have any comments on how the bike preforms on the highway around 70-80mph. thanks alot!

Welcome aboard from NJ.

The 883 does just fine at highway speeds!

It does just fine at 70-80 on the freeway. My GF does that without a problem.

An 883 performs well for the base model, smallest Harley built. It will run all day at 80 mph however it will be reving kinda high, not that that's a bad thing. They key is warm up. Let the bike fully warm up before twisting full wrist. 5-10 milesish at 50mph will get it sufficiently warm for higher speed running.
If you are going to spend most of your time on the highway I suggest a 6 speed dyna.

My 1st road trip was on a 650, it did fine. San Diego to Albuquerque, San Diego to San Francisco.
I've ridden 200k and this 1200 is the biggest bike I've ever had. Bigger isn't alway better, but it sounds catche, and it sells bikes.

I did a short run on a highway and have hit highway speeds on some straights. It runs fine but, it's loud even with stock pipes. Which isn't really a bad thing, you really feel at one with the bike.
